MODEL LIBRARY RULES
1. General Conduct
- Treat everyone with kindness and respect.
- Maintain a quiet atmosphere to support concentration.
- All students and staff of the Vidyalaya are members of the library.
- Maintain a quiet and respectful environment to support focused learning.
- Respect diversity in reading choices and encourage knowledge-sharing.
- Use of technology (tablets, e-readers) is allowed for educational purposes.
- No eating, drinking, or mobile calls inside the library.
2. Reading and Learning Opportunities
- Students are encouraged to explore books beyond the syllabus, including fiction, non-fiction, and regional literature.
- Library supports multilingual learning – books available in English, Hindi, and regional languages.
- Special reading programs, book clubs, and storytelling sessions will be conducted to develop critical thinking and creativity.
3. Borrowing and Returning Books
- Students can borrow up to two (02) books for 14 days.
- A staff member can borrow a maximum of five books at a time for one month.
- Books will be issued to the students, during the library periods. No book will be issued or returned during the teaching hours.
- Books must be returned on time to ensure availability for all.
- The Librarian may call for a book at any time, even if the normal period of loan has not Expired.
- Digital library access is available for e-books and online resources.
- Reference books, newspapers, and periodicals can be read inside the library but cannot be taken out.
- A 'No Dues Certificate' by each student and staff is to be obtained from the Librarian while his/her transfer/withdrawal from the school.
4. Book Care and Responsibility
- Handle books with care to preserve knowledge for others.
- No writing, tearing, or highlighting in library books.
- After reading, make sure that the books, periodicals, and newspapers are kept back at their respective places.
- Lost or damaged books must be replaced or compensated by the user.
5. Technology & Digital Learning
- Library computers and internet access are for research, projects, and skill development.
- Coding, AI, and STEAM resources are available to enhance digital literacy.
- No gaming, social media, or non-educational browsing is allowed.
- Follow the cyber safety guidelines.
6. Study and Discussion Areas
- Quiet study zones for independent learning.
- Collaborative learning spaces for discussions and group projects.
- Special reading corners for creative exploration and innovation.
7. Encouraging Lifelong Learning
- Students are encouraged to participate in library events, book fairs, and reading challenges.
- Access to OER like National Digital Library Resources (NDLI, e-pathshala, DIKSHA platform).
- Engagement with authors, educators, and guest speakers for deeper learning experiences.
8. Inclusive Library rules for special needs
students
- Priority Seating – Designated quiet spaces and comfortable seating.
- Extended Borrowing Periods – Longer loan times if needed.
- Assistive Technology – Access to audiobooks, large print, or braille books.
- Support Services – Librarians/Library assistants available for personalized assistance.
- Sensory-Friendly Hours – Designated times with reduced noise and lighting.
- Alternative Communication – Use of sign language, picture exchange, or speech-to-text apps.
9. Consequences for Rule Violations
- First offense: Friendly reminder and guidance on library etiquette.
- Second offense: Temporary suspension of borrowing privileges.
- Repeated offenses: Further action as per school policies.
